"We don't move dogs — we plan every mile so the families who love them can."

"Moving a dog across the country shouldn't feel like a puzzle."

The question that started Trotway.

Our story

Every dog deserves a
planned journey.

Trotway was founded after watching too many families cobble together cross-country dog moves from forum posts, Facebook groups, and guesswork — only to arrive stressed, or worse, with a dog that spent 14 hours in the wrong conditions.

Ground transportation is the safest way to move a dog long distances. But "safe" only holds if the route is planned properly: the right rest intervals, the right rest-stop choices, the right carrier setup, the right timing around heat and cold.

We built Trotway to be the advisor we wished existed — one who has done this hundreds of times and can tell you exactly what to do, what to avoid, and what questions to ask the transport company before you ever hand over your dog.

Founded by dog owners, for dog owners.

Based in the United States. Consulting nationwide.

What we believe

Good transport consulting is
an act of care.

We're not a booking platform. We're the advisor who's already made every mistake so you don't have to.

Your dog's comfort is the priority, not speed.

A faster route isn't always the safer one. We plan around your dog's breed, age, temperament, and medical needs — not just mileage.

You deserve clear answers, not jargon.

Health certificates, interstate regulations, temperature restrictions — we translate it all into plain steps you can actually act on.

Preparation prevents problems.

The families who have the smoothest moves are the ones who planned ahead. We help you ask the right questions before anything goes wrong.

We only recommend what we'd use ourselves.

No affiliate deals. No preferred-vendor kickbacks. Our carrier, crate, and route recommendations exist because they work.

Who Trotway helps

Relocating families

Military PCS, corporate transfers, or personal moves — we map the trip so your dog arrives as ready as you are.

Breeders coordinating delivery

Puppy delivery across state lines requires careful logistics. We help breeders set up safe, repeatable transport plans for their litters.

Dogs with special needs

Anxious dogs, senior dogs, brachycephalic breeds — we plan around their specific needs so the trip doesn't set back their health or confidence.

What families say

The relief of knowing
every mile was planned.

A young woman hugging her Dalmatian dog in a park.
"We were moving from Georgia to Oregon with a 10-year-old Lab who'd never been in a car more than an hour. Trotway built us a plan I never could have figured out on my own. She arrived wagging."

Sarah M.

Atlanta, GA → Portland, OR · Military PCS

J
"As a breeder shipping puppies to families in three different states, I needed a system. Trotway gave me a repeatable process and a checklist I use for every litter. It changed how I run my business."

James K.

Golden Retriever Breeder · Colorado

R
"My Frenchie has a collapsed trachea. Every transport company I called said 'sure, no problem.' Trotway was the only one who actually understood why that was a problem — and built a plan around it."

Is ground transportation always safer than flying for dogs?
For most dogs, yes — especially medium and large breeds, brachycephalic (short-nosed) dogs, and seniors. Cargo holds expose dogs to temperature fluctuations, noise, and handling stress that ground transport avoids entirely. That said, the right method depends on your dog's specific needs, and we help you figure out which is truly safer for your situation.
How far in advance should I contact Trotway?
For a planned move, 4–8 weeks ahead is ideal. That gives us time to vet carriers, schedule your health certificate appointments with your vet at the right timing, and account for weather windows. We've also helped families on short notice — 1–2 weeks — but earlier is always better.
Do you work with the transport company, or do I still have to find one?
Both options are available. We can recommend vetted carriers from our network, or evaluate a carrier you've already found. We review their safety record, insurance, vehicle setup, and handling practices — and tell you honestly whether they're a good fit for your dog.
What does a Trotway consultation cost?
The initial 30-minute call is always free. Full consulting plans start at $195 for a single-route plan, and go up based on complexity (multi-dog households, medically complex dogs, multi-state regulatory requirements). We're transparent about pricing before any commitment.
What states do you cover?
All 48 contiguous states. We map routes to and from anywhere in the lower 48, including interstate health certificate requirements for each state your route crosses. Alaska and Hawaii inquiries are handled case-by-case.
My dog is anxious in the car. Can you still help?
Yes — and this is exactly the kind of situation we specialize in. Anxious dogs need a plan built around shorter drive segments, familiar scents, the right rest stop environment, and sometimes a vet conversation about low-dose anxiolytics for the trip. We've helped hundreds of anxious dogs travel comfortably.
